Independent United Nation Watch expresses grave concern over the escalating humanitarian disaster in Gaza, where the ongoing blockade, renewed hostilities, and restrictions on humanitarian access have pushed the population to the brink of famine. We raise u rgent questions regarding the human toll of Gaza’s food aid crisis and call upon higher authorities and responsible organizations to take immediate, decisive action to end these violations and protect innocent civilians.
Disastrous Hunger and Malnourishment
Overall, World Food Programme (WFP) and the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) recent reports indicate a desperate situation.
- There is catastrophic hunger (IPC Phase 5 Catastrophe) experienced by 470,000 people.
- 470,000 individuals, 20 percent of Gazan people, in acute food insecurity and more than 1 million individuals in Emergency (IPC Phase 4) and 500,000 in Crisis (IPC Phase 3).
- There are 71000 children and more than 17000 mothers who require emergency treatment of acute malnutrition.
- All WFP food supplies in Gaza are at present ended, however, more than 116 000 metric tons of food aid are waiting to get in when the blockade is opened.
- No humanitarian or commercial goods have entered Gaza since March 2, 2025, and food required to maintain life has gone bad or become unaffordable, with such items as wheat flour rising in price by up to 3,000-percent since February.
Declining Violence and Refusal of Humanitarian Access
Lately, based on the report of the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the situation is severe:
- One in every five Gazans are experiencing catastrophic hunger because of the 470,000 people facing the IPC Phase 5 Catastrophe (IPC Phase 5 Catastrophe).
- Gaza faces acute food insecurity with more than 1 million people now in Emergency (IPC Phase 4) and half a million in Crisis (IPC Phase 3), with essentially all the population affected.
- More than 71,000 children and over 17,000 mothers are in need of treatment for acute malnutrition.
- All WFP food stocks in Gaza are depleted, and over 116,000 metric tons of food assistance are ready to enter if the blockade is lifted.
- None of the humanitarian assistance and commercial supplies have been able to enter Gaza since March 2 2025 leading to depletion of commodities that are vital to human life; such as wheat flour, which has risen to up to 3000 percent since the last set of February.
Violence mounted, Keeping access to Humanitarianism blocked
- Conflict resurgence and complete blockade have instigated a mass exodus of over 430,000 people since March 18, 2025; and now about a million are in danger.
- Cutting the UN presence in Gaza has been necessitated by the fact that humanitarian workers and UN assets have been attacked with one UN employee being killed in a deconflicted zone.
- Those are 25 WFP-affiliated bakeries, which already had to shut down, as well as the food supply reserves of the majority of the 177 hot meal kitchens, which had run out.
- Hospitals are overburdened, fuel and water resources are in critical shortage as well as basic medicines.
Clamorous Inquiries and Demand of Responsibility
IUN Watch begs the following question:
- Why is the international community tolerating the cannibalization of all the people of an entire nation?
- Why is life saving aid and why are humanitarian convoys and aid workers targeted?
- Who shall take responsibility for the increasing number of deaths of the civilians and the creation of a famine state on purpose?
Organizations Responsible and Those Who Can Take Action
We do remind the world that the next following organizations and authorities have the mandate, responsibilities, ability to intervene:
- United Nations Security Council (UNSC): it possesses the prerogative to undertake binding measures to provide human security and access by humanitarian workers.
- International Criminal Court (ICC): Has been called upon to investigate and prosecute war crimes like use of starvation as a weapon of war.
- World Food Programme (WFP): The highest food assistance agency and an advocate of free humanitarian access.
- United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA): Humanitarian relief and his coordination, as well as surveillance of violation of humanitarian law.
- International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): Guarantee adherence to the international humanitarian law and security of civilians.
- UNICEF and WHO: Child and maternal health and reactions to acute malnutrition and medical emergencies are their responsibility.
- State of Israel: With the status of the occupying force it is obliged by law to guarantee the civilian population of sufficient food, medical assistance and humanitarian aid according to international law.
Our Demands
IUN Watch calls on these organizations and authorities to:
- Insist on opening all the border crossings immediately and without any conditions to humanitarian help and trade goods.
- Investigate independently attacks on aid convoys or UN staff and civilian facilities.
- Incorporate the culprits of blocking assistance and exposing civilians to pain.
- Deploy emergency grants and logistic help in order to reinstate foodstuff, water, health and shelter to the people of Gaza.
The death toll in the food aid crisis of Gaza is a scar on the human civilization of the world. The active violation of the right to food, medicine, and even humanitarian access by killing is something harmful and unethical as far as international law is concerned. IUN Watch joined the people of Gaza and all humanitarian workers despite risks facing their lives to provide relief. We would like to appeal to the UN, international organization, and all the concerned authorities to take immediate action-before it is too late to save more lives through hunger, disease and violence.
