Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian foreign minister, has urged the UN to address Israeli threats against Iran’s nuclear facilities and issued a warning that Tehran will take “special measures” to protect its infrastructure if needed.

Araghchi referenced a recent CNN report that claimed US intelligence suggests Israel is getting ready for potential attacks on Iranian nuclear infrastructure in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the president of the UN Security Council, Rafael Grossi.

“Iran will take all necessary steps to safeguard its facilities, interests, and citizens from any acts of terrorism or sabotage,”

Araghchi stated.

“As before, we firmly caution the Israeli government against any adventurism, and Iran will firmly oppose any threats or transgressions.”

According to a CNN story this week, US intelligence sources were reported as stating that in addition to intercepted conversations, military activities had been seen that suggested a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Araghchi went on to say that Iran holds the United States accountable for any possible Israeli strike, even though it is aware that Washington would have to provide its implicit assent for such an operation. “The US government will share responsibility in the event of any strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities,” he declared.

Araghchi referenced many UN and IAEA resolutions that forbid assaults on civilian nuclear facilities and restated Iran’s stance that its nuclear program is peaceful and completely under IAEA supervision.

He cautioned that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will be compelled to adopt special protective measures for its nuclear facilities and materials” owing to persistent threats, with specifics to be provided to the IAEA later. Araghchi calls the “alarming” US intelligence dump on Israeli threats

In a post on X after receiving the letter, Araghchi restated his point, referring to it as a “serious pre-action warning.”

He stated, “Rogue Israeli regime threats are nothing new.” “However, it is concerning that the UN Security Council and the IAEA should immediately and firmly denounce the recent leak that purports to reveal Israeli plans for an illegal attack on Iran and its nuclear facilities, citing US officials as the source.”

“The scope, character, and substance of our actions will align with and be commensurate with the preventive measures implemented by these international organizations,”

he continued.

Israel would get a “devastating and decisive response” if it invaded Iran, according to a separate warning from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Guards spokeswoman Alimohammad Naini told state media, “They are trying to frighten us with war but are miscalculating, as they are unaware of the powerful popular and military support the Islamic Republic can muster in war conditions.”
