Following his diagnosis of a urinary tract infection, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to have surgery on Sunday to remove his prostate, according to his office. More than 14 months after the Palestinian terrorists launched an unprecedented onslaught on Israel on October 7 of last year, Israel is currently at war with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, Netanyahu was “diagnosed with a urinary tract infection resulting from a benign prostate enlargement” following a test at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday. The prime minister will therefore have surgery tomorrow to remove his prostate, it stated.
Prostate surgery for the Israeli leader
On Monday, the state demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclose his physical status and asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition against him. The CEO of his office, the Israeli government, and the Attorney General wrote in their preliminary response to the petition against the Prime Minister’s Office, which demanded the disclosure of the Prime Minister’s current medical status, that since the petition was filed approximately six months ago, some developments regarding Netanyahu’s medical state have occurred, rendering the initial reason for the petition moot. Healthcare workers, Labor Party MK Naama Lazimi, survivors of Kibbutz Beeri, and relatives of victims of the Nova Music Festival massacre all signed the petition. They are pushing for permanent protocols governing the prime minister’s medical treatment routine, in addition to requesting that the prime minister disclose his current health state. Furthermore, the petitioners contended that Netanyahu had never filed his medical report under ?legal rules and that the process for revealing his condition in 2023 was badly handled.
Netanyahu set for medical procedure
Furthermore, the current process for appointing a medical team for the prime minister does not outline any specific field of competence that the chief medical officer must possess, in contrast to the petition’s assertions. It just specifies that they have to be a senior physician in active practice and be accessible to carry out their responsibilities around the clock. In their petition response, the state pointed out that Dr. Berkovich, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s doctor, had 53 years of medical experience. It further stated that he met the procedure’s requirements by being certified as a specialist in 1981 and having medical experience at Bikur Cholim Hospital. The response also stated that the Director General of the Health Ministry recommended Dr. Berkovich as the head of the Prime Minister’s medical team on February 2, 2023, and the Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office made the appointment under current protocol.
Israeli leader to have surgery
The state’s statement also mentioned that Dr. Berkovich’s contract was approved for a one-year term with three options for renewal. The first option to extend the contract was granted by the Prime Minister’s Office Auctions Committee on April 15, 2024. Respondents pointed out that Dr. Berkovich has been treating Netanyahu for decades and is well-versed in his health issues. The petitioners’ allegation that Berkovich had a close relationship with the prime minister, they contended, had no bearing on the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Berkovich, the head of the medical team, selected Prof. Alon Pikarsky, who heads the surgical department at Hadassah University Medical Center, to be his deputy. For hundreds of years, medical students worked as hospital interns, passed exams, got the go-ahead from senior doctors, graduated, and then were thrown into the clinical “pond” and left to fend for themselves.
Netanyahu faces health procedure
Some of them went on to study specialties as residents at home and pursue fellowships overseas. With the approval of the Director General of the Health Ministry, the Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office approved his nomination. Under the present protocol, the office’s Auctions Committee will eventually approve the appointment. The management is aware that to be successful, they will need to make significant financial investments and secure the dedication of top doctors to offer intense care for extended periods. The director of the Internal Medicine C department, Prof. Arie Ben-Yehuda, was declared to be of retirement age by the Hadassah Medical Organization’s management one year and nine months ago. In a motion submitted to the court early on Sunday, Amit Hadad, Netanyahu’s attorney, stated that full anesthesia would be used for the procedure and that “the prime minister will be in hospital for several days” to recuperate. He requested that Netanyahu’s testimony at his graft trial be postponed for one week and promised to provide the court with more information later.
